Targeted nanomedicine as a novel approach to treat autoimmune diseases

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Project Description

A rational approach to the treatment and cure of many autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS) requires the incorporation of three fundamental processes: suppression of the causative inflammatory response, deletion of autoreactive lymphocytes and regeneration of the target cells or tissues. This proposal combines the multi-potential applications of nanotechnology developed at AMRITA (Kochi) with technology platforms that bridge autoimmunity, neuroscience and stem cells at MISCL, (Monash). We aim at developing novel drug-loaded engineered nanodevices that can be used as therapeutics to not only reverse the damaging effect of autoimmune responses to self but also promote tissue repair.
