Structural and functional studies of a Tripartite Motif-Containing Protein

Project: Research

Project Details

Project Description

We aim to characterise the structure and function of the tripartite-motif containing protein 25 (TRIM25).
TRIM25 is a versatile protein because it can alter the function of select proteins by literally adding a
molecular tag to them. In this manner TRIM25 can regulate proteins involved in the anti-viral immune
response and cell growth and the importance of TRIM25 is emphasised by its association with breast,
ovarian and prostate cancers. This proposal will advance our fundamental knowledge of TRIM25 and how it
modifies other proteins to influence their function. As protein modification can regulate diverse and
instrumental cellular processes the information learnt will translate across all areas of the biological
sciences.
