Rising to the challenge with our clients: PBS+PLUS training for the Epworth community-based brain injury rehabilitation setting

Many individuals with brain injury engage in challenging behaviours (e.g., aggression or inappropriate behaviour), which are distressing for the individuals and their families. Clinicians feel ill-equipped to address post-injury behaviours. Recent research shows that a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework called PBS+PLUS is effective in reducing challenging behaviours and improving quality of life after brain injury. This project will provide and evaluate a comprehensive training program for Epworth community brain injury rehabilitation teams in collaboration with the Monash-Epworth Rehabilitation Research Centre and Monash University. This will improve clinician confidence and knowledge, and reduce patients’ challenging behaviour. Sustainable improvements in patient care and clinical services will be established through joining a community of practice established by the Positive Behaviour Service at the Monash University Turner Clinics.
