Research of Transcultural and Inquiry Literacy of School Staff

This research project is an analysis of the degree of transcultural and inquiry capacity in teachers in Glen Waverley Primary School, enabling an evaluation of their professional needs, as well as an understanding of how they affect their teaching of students in a socially complex global environment.

There are two parts to the research: an online survey (to be undertaken by all teaching staff, subject to their consent); followed by a personal interview of 45 - 60 minutes when the researcher visits the school of a sample cohort of 10 staff that has a ratio of 1: 2: 7 in terms of senior management/middle management/classroom teacher, and which broadly represents the curriculum areas taught within the structure of the school programme. Teachers give their consent through the online survey. All participants need to be reassured that, although asked for names in the survey process, this is purely for data matching purposes only. The results are totally confidential. All survey information is de-personalised in the data analysis, and codes will be used in any publication for both schools and teachers.

The research will be supported by professional learning seminars, to be delivered in Terms 1, 2,3 and 4.
