Project Description
Policies to reduce carbon emissions and shift the national economy to a new low carbon trajectory will discourage high-emissions industries and may produce adverse impacts in regions that rely on employment in high-emission activities. This project's investigation of the implications of carbon-reduction policies in two vulnerable regions - the Latrobe Valley and Hunter Valley - will generate much-needed information about the likely regional impacts of the transition to a low carbon economy. It will estimate the impacts on regional employment, identify the factors that promote regional resilience and propose means by which local economies might restructure for future prosperity.
