re(Connecting) children to place through active travel. Travel smart and local area access grants program

    Project: Research

    Project Details

    Project Description

This project aims to increase active transport in and around school communities by providing safer, more connected routes to school; designated drop off points within easy walking distance to school; improved road crossings, education programs and a large number of children taking the same route. A strategic route approach will be incorporated to address distance, perceived safety and environmental barriers through the provision of walkable pathways to school in conjunction with behaviour change models. Enhancing connectivity to school/community centres is further facilitated by the unique application of place-based teaching that will serve to re-connect children and their parents to place.
