Project Description
The ‘Just Energy Transition Fellowship Programme’ (hereafter, JETFP) aims to inform the decision-makers and practitioners on just transition mechanisms,
more specifically, the governance and financing of a just energy transition partnerships.
The overall goal of the JETFP is to bring together representatives from
governments, research institutions, trade unions and state-owned enterprises to address this need; the decision-makers and practitioners will attend a two-week
course to increase their know-how, capabilities and know how on best practices for accelerating a just transition while getting on track to their net zero targets.
JETFP will contribute to the priority development areas by informing the decision making tools regarding implementing social protection measures in countries
that are not only vulnerable to the impacts of climate change but also have game-changing potential in terms of decarbonisation of ASEAN, considering the social implications of a coal exodus of coal-reliant regions in light of limited social protection measures lower levels of GDP per capita, macro-economic implications of early retirement of the relatively young coal fleet and the risks
on extractive industries. More specifically, risks regarding job security, access to electricity, the rights of indigenous communities, and implications for women and girls and other marginalised groups will be prioritised.
