Project Description

This research project has been formulated collaboratively with the Industry partner, Dura Technology Sdn. Bhd., to achieve the aim to assess, qualify and quantify the sustainability impact and parameters of Ultra-High-Performance Concrete (UHPC) systems and structures by considering the different phases in the life-cycle of the structures, ultimately to address the goal of construction circularity at the planetary scale. The following objectives have been formulated to direct the project towards achieving the global aim.
1. To determine the parameters, characteristics, and factors that contribute to the Science-based Sustainability Targets of UHPC structures and systems.
2. To model, quantify and analyze the contribution of the determined parameters and factors toward the sustainability and resilience aspect of UHPC systems and structures, by considering the different phases through the life-cycle of the structures.
3. To develop a framework and simulation model to qualify and quantify sustainability impact and parameters of UHPC systems and structures, from laboratory scale to real-life field applications.
4. To verify and validate the developed framework by undertaking real-life field application case studies of UHPC structures and systems for parametric analysis.

To highlight the significance of this research, it has been highlighted that this study is the first systematic and comprehensive effort to address the qualification and quantification of the sustainability aspects and parameters of UHPC by adopting a cradle-to-grave approach through the life-cycle of the structures, by combining the theoretical and experimental-based lab data, and real-life construction in practice. The data for analysis and case studies that will be adopted in this study will be sourced from real-life case examples of the design and construction of UHPC structures undertaken by the industry partner, Dura Technology Sdn. Bhd.
