Project Description
ASEAN is entering an important phase in strengthening regional public health emergency preparedness and governance. The anticipated implementation of the Pandemic Agreement, amendments to the International Health Regulations (IHR), and the
continued development of ASEAN mechanisms such as the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED), ASEAN BioDiaspora Virtual Centre, and ASEAN Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) Network provide an opportunity to explore innovative regional approaches to pandemic prevention.
The Monash University’s PHE Policy Hub has been established as a regional platform to generate evidence, convene stakeholders, and support policy dialogue on pandemic and public health emergency preparedness in ASEAN and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
The Pandemic Compensation Initiative (PCI), led by PAX sapiens, seeks to address this challenge by exploring innovative mechanisms to compensate countries that report outbreaks early and transparently. By reducing the political and economic barriers associated with early reporting, PCI aims to strengthen global and regional systems for pandemic prevention.
A partnership between PAX sapiens and the PHE Policy Hub would create an opportunity to jointly advance the Pandemic Compensation Initiative in ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region through evidence generation, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, policy dialogue,
and integration into ongoing regional convenings.
