Project Details
Project Description
This project aims to cement Australia's internationally leading role in the emerging field of low oxidation state s-block chemistry. It will achieve this by employing innovative approaches to install a new generation of magnesium(I) compounds as powerful and selective reagents for the preparation of novel metal-metal bonded compound classes that are not accessible by other means. These environmentally benign species will be utilised as viable alternatives to established systems, incorporating expensive and toxic metals, which are currently employed for the stoichiometric/ catalytic transformation of small molecules to value added products. The project offers major academic, environmental and economic benefits to Australia.
