Project Description

Professional sporting opportunities are crucial for building the visibility, success, interest and participation of women and girls in sport at both elite and community levels. This study will explore International practices in the development of professional women's sports leagues with a specific focus on earnings and conditions for women athletes and coaches. The study will quantify the differences in salaries and prize money between professional sportswomen and sportsmen, and identify best practice in building environments where the careers of sports women and coaches can flourish. A series of Australian case studies of established and emerging sports will then be undertaken to determine key lessons for building sporting pathways for women and girls in Victoria. It is envisaged that this project will develop benchmark data, case study Insights and recommendations for developing a genuinely inclusive Victorian sporting sector.
