MIDTERM REVIEW OF “TOWARDS ZERO” ROAD SAFETY STRATEGY, 2008-2017 - Stage 2: investigation of potential new initiatives

Project: Research

Project Description

In 2015 the eMETS model was used to estimate numbers of killed and seriously injured persons (‘serious casualties’) on Western Australian roads by the end of the current Towards Zero strategy in 2020. A limited set of planned initiatives were included in the model at the time, with the outcomes of the project indicating that, while some benefits were realised, it would be unlikely for Western Australia to achieve the Towards Zero goal of a 40% reduction in death and serious injury in the coming five years. The Road Safety Commission (RSC) has therefore seen the need to undertake an assessment of a suite of new initiatives not previously modelled and, subsequent to discussions held in July 2016, this proposal aims to provide the research evidence help the safety stakeholders of Western Australia to achieve current strategy targets.
