Project Description
The newly discovered process of electrogenic sulfur oxidation leads to extremely low pH within sediments, which can potentially lead to trace metal mobilisation. We have discovered that this process occurs within the periodically hypoxic Yarra River Estuary. This project will undertake experiments on sediments collected from the Yarra to determine the extent of trace metal remobilization and subsequent release from sediments induced by electrogenic sulfur oxidation.
