Project Description

Future workspaces and living environments will demand ultra-broadband wireless connectivity. Optical wireless networks can offer scalable bandwidth in such applications by exploiting unprecedented bandwidth capabilities of free-space optical transmission. Such networks require dynamically steerable optical beams and compact transceivers with flat optical apertures. In this project, we propose a novel architecture of lattice panel apertures based on arrays of phased arrays that can establish and steer multiple optical beams simultaneously, investigate system architectures, and demonstrate the feasibility of these architectures. The outcomes of this project will transform broadband wireless into the future of optical mobile networking.
