Islamophobia in Australia

Reports of Islamophobia in Australia have increased 1300% since October 7, 2023. The project provides a comprehensive analysis of all the reports of Islamophobia (including anti-Palestinian prejudice) reported to the Islamophobia Register Australia nationally over the last 2 years. Building on previous reports, this will document and analyse the nature of Islamophobic incidents (including verbal, written, and physical threats and attacks), demographics and experiences of victims, and the longer-term personal and social impacts of the attacks.

This research offers important insights into the broader reality of social cohesion in Australia, and contextualises the Australian experience at a time when Islamophobia is increasing in multiple countries. Findings from this research is agenda-setting, and will be used to inform government policy, direct funding and guide community organisations.
