Project Description

This research will demystify the ideals and objectives of Islamic actors in relation to a 'just' global order. By adopting a comparative approach to geographically and politically diverse Islamic actors (international, trans-national and national organisations, as well as influential individuals), this study will (a) identify tangible components of the otherwise ill-defined aspiration for global justice, and (b) test the capacity of the existing framework of international relations (embodied in the UN) to address these issues. The outcome will be a de-ideologised understanding of 'Islamic justice' and an enhanced ability for Australia and its Western allies to engage with the Muslim world.
