This project aims to investigate the coordination of brain circuits of awake, resting subjects. It will focus on claustrum, a puzzling structure in the lateral brain, with an unusual pattern of connectivity. Using interdisciplinary approaches such as anatomical, electrophysiological and mathematical techniques, this project intends to fully characterize at cellular level the involvement of claustrum in resting networks. The expected outcome of this project is a new understanding of information flow through claustrum. This should benefit the development of neural engineering devices and of novel drugs.
