Internationalisation of Japanese higher education

Japanese universities, like their counterparts in most countries, claim to be strongly committed to ‘internationalisation’. My interest is in how this term is defined and reflected in practice, and how it interacts with other agendas of change in the education system and wider society. Some of my research findings in this area are contained in the monograph titled International Inside Out: The Organisational Dynamics of University Reform in Japan (2013). I also deal with the wider regional and transnational context for Japanese university internationalisation in the monograph Articulating Asia in Japanese Higher Education (2018).
