This project will explore the impact of childhood obesity prevention discourse in Australia, particularly as it is
enacted in early childhood service delivery, on women as mothers. The aims and design of the project are
informed by a national childhood obesity consultation conducted in early 2010. Qualitative in approach, it will
combine in-depth interviews with mothers and childcare workers with detailed policy analysis. The findings
will help produce more balanced and effective approaches to children's health and well-being in relation to
food and physical activity.
