Project Description

Revealing the dynamic mechanisms that pattern the early mammalian embryo is key to understanding human biology and disease. However, few experimental systems permit to study single cells and molecules in living mammalian embryos. In this proposal we will combine novel single cell imaging in living mouse embryos, genetic manipulations and mathematical modeling, to reveal how the dynamic behaviour of gene regulatory proteins called transcription factors control the formation of the first specialised cell lineages of mammals.
