Project Description

The goal of this project is to develop a therapy that rejuvenates mitochondria during early embryo
development so that dysfunctional mitochondria within an egg are not perpetuated into offspring
tissues. Specifically, we will test whether mitochondria targeted compounds (BGP-15, SS-31 and/or
MitoQ) that stabilise the mitochondrial cristae of the egg could be used to promote preferential
biogenesis of healthy mitochondria and thereby minimise transmission of defective mitochondria to the
embryo after fertilisation.
