Project Description
In this project, we will investigate a new class of metallic alloys, the so-called high-entropy alloys (HEAs), which deviate strongly from established metallurgical concepts as HEAs constitute high volume fractions of 5 or more elements instead of one principal element. The alloying concept of HEAs opens a vast space of possible chemical compositions and thus mechanical properties. In order to identify promising alloys we will combine thermodynamic calculations using the Calphad method and flexible high-throughput production of bulk samples using laser metal deposition (LMD) of elemental powder blends.
