Project Description

This request is for an analytical ultracentrifuge with sensitive scanning optics to measure the size and interactions of complexes formed by proteins and other biomolecules. This high-speed ultracentrifuge facility will allow sedimentation rates in high gravitational fields to be monitored as a means of characterizing the low-abundance macromolecular assemblies that exist in living cells. The facility will be used in high-throughput drug screening and in the characterization of new biomaterials. This equipment, the first for Australia, will stimulate cutting-edge research projects in biotechnology and nanotechnology, support Australian industry and provide new training opportunities for post-doctoral and post-graduate students.
