    Project Description

    This project will both extend curent expertise in high technology particle detectors, and apply this technology to new devices for taking high speed, high resolution images at teh Australian Synchrotron. The new 'pixel' detectors make use of electronics chip fabrication technology. Tiny X-ray and particle sensitive regions and electronics are integrated into separate elements of the detector. Millions of such elements on silicon chips can capture images from X-rays similar to film but at speeds of 10 complete pictures per second. The very bright synchrotron X-rays can thus be much better utilised with this major leap in X-ray detection capability.
