Project Description

A growing number of Australian patients are travelling overseas to undertake unproven stem cell treatments which may improve or present risks to their health. This form of medical travel, known as stem cell tourism, is of great concern to policymakers, scientists and clinicians. The project will investigate the socio-cultural factors that shape patients' and their carers' expectations and experiences of treatments and providers. The outcomes will advance our understanding of the dynamics shaping stem cell tourism and will assist in developing policies that support patients and their families who are considering undertaking such treatments.
