Project Description

The preparation of nanostructured materials is a huge field of research endeavour with much promise in transforming medicine and industrial processes - of course nature does this in many realms including during digestion of lipids in our own gastrointestinal tract. However, our understanding of the self-assembly of lipids to form nanostructured materials, especially in vivo, is limited. Using advanced nano-characterisation techniques we will gain the understanding of nanostructure formation in vivo, which will facilitate the design of next generation lipid-based drug products and smart functional foods. Training at the bio-nano interface in nanotechnology and synchrotron techniques for young Australian scientists will also be achieved.
