Project Description
The principle objective of this project is to generate stereochemically discrete reductive environments about group 13 and low valent rare earth elements. These will be employed in a survey of asymmetric reduction in order to identify unique transformations. For group 13 elements; enantiospecific M-H bond environments will be invoked using either chiral N-heterocyclic carbenes or chiral amidinate ligands. For low valent rare earth species; enantiospecific anionic ligands will be applied to render selective one-electron transfer reagents. The application of gallium hydrides to a new Ga(III) redox-transmetallation synthesis of rare earth species will also be undertaken. Worldwide, this chemistry is remarkably underdeveloped.
