Fire Medical Response (FMR) Evaluation

Project: Research

Project Details

Project Description

The CFA FMR program is a co-responder healthcare initiative in partnership with AV, aimed at improving health outcomes of those individuals sustaining a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). Due to CFA having strategic locations in more than 1,000 locations across regional and remote Victoria, CFA was considered to be appropriately positioned to improve the time to the provision of care following a SCA in the community.

The program involves equipping CFA brigades with basic life support (BLS) resources and equipment, and training its volunteers in the provision of basic life support. In the event of a suspected SCA case notified via Triple-Zero (000) in a participating region, FMR trained CFA volunteers from participating brigades will be dispatched to the case concurrently with ambulance services.

The Country Fire Authority (CFA), together with Ambulance Victoria (AV) and Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) would evaluate the co-responder healthcare program; Fire Medical Response (FMR).
