Exploring the Relationship between Autonomic Arousal and Response to Magnetic Stimulation Treatment for Affective Disorders

Project: Research

Project Description

This is an observational study that will be offered as an optional 'add on' to participants in randomised controlled trials investigating the efficacy of magnetic stimulation treatments to one another or to sham treatment conducted at the Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre, and to patients of the Epworth Clinic who have been prescribed a magnetic stimulation treatment by their psychiatrist. It aims to i) investigate the effect of magnetic stimulation treatments on heart rate, heart rate pattern and heart rate variability in patients with affective disorders; and ii) determine the utility of heart rate, heart rate pattern and heart rate variability in distinguishing response to magnetic stimulation treatments in patients with affective disorders.
