Project Description

Endometriosis is a common chronic disease that affects the health and well-being of 11.4% of women of reproductive age and costs $7.4 billion per annum in Australia. Diagnosis and treatment represents a major clinical challenge because symptoms including severe pelvic pain overlap with other conditions. No patient presentation is the same and there is poor correlation between symptoms and number and types of lesions encountered. Clinicians and allied health professionals lack necessary tools to provide patients with an accurate and early diagnosis, to inform treatment and avoid surgical intervention. The Federal Government has developed a National Action Plan for Endometriosis as a framework to address this unmet need for women.
