Project Description

Spin crossover is a uniquely versatile form of molecular switch in which prominent changes in structure, colour and magnetism can be induced reversibly by a range of convenient external stimuli. This project targets the development of major new classes of ‘intelligent’ materials in which emergent properties arise due to the strategic combination of spin switching with diverse other functionalities. In probing new and interesting forms of interplay between a range of technologically relevant properties, the work addresses important fundamental questions in
the science of host-guest and electronic/magnetic systems and will lead to advanced new materials worthy of commercial development.
