Project Description

Currently TAC Road Safety Research reports serious injury measures with a 6-month lag. This allows for reporting and processing delays within the Victoria Police Traffic Incident System (TIS also known as VPARS), VicRoads Road Crash Information System (RCIS) and TAC Claims Databases. The vast majority of required information has been processed after 6 months, though evidence suggests that even this lag is not sufficient to allow the series to completely settle.
TAC Road Safety would like to report the series with a significantly shorter lag time using early indicators of hospital admission status for on road accidents. These early indicators exist across TIS/VPARS and TAC Claims datasets but the reporting delays and accuracy of reporting serious injury rate compared to the finalised series are currently unknown.
