Project Description

Returning to work after traumatic brain injury (TBI) poses many challenges. This project will develop and pilot a psychoeducational smartphone app to support return to work (RTW) after TBI. Using short video interviews of patients with TBI who have previously RTW, the app will share personal stories, drawing on patients’ own experiences of RTW after TBI, to improve understanding of potential challenges, enhancing insight into, and control over rehabilitation. The videos will be solution-based: ‘what did you experience’, ‘what did you do about it’ offering strategies to prevent, mitigate or resolve problems. Videos will build understanding and confidence through learning from others who have overcome, adapted to or learnt to accept limitations and succeeded in RTW to varying degrees. It will also include a section for employers covering what to expect and ways to support RTW. It will be designed for TBI users in a simple and intuitive way.
