Project Details
Project Description
The project will develop a Gender Gap App. The Gender Gap App will provide an opportunity for individuals to map their experience of gender equality within greater Melbourne and wider Victoria using geo-spatial mapping technology. The visual data will quantify the nature and extent of gender inequality experienced in urban environments with the goal of deepening the understanding of this pressing policy issue.
Through geographic information systems, users will be empowered to share and map their experiences across a range of settings and domains such as: public spaces (i.e. safety, lighting and maintenance of public spaces), infrastructure (e.g. community facilities, parks, sport and recreation facilities, access to changing rooms, and transport), access to services (e.g. sufficient number of services, flexible hours of operation and gender sensitive service provision) or advertising, media and entertainment (e.g. rating of advertisements, films and TV programs in terms of gender stereotyping, sexualisation of women and portrayal of female characters).
