Project Details
Project Description
This project will facilitate management and potential eradication of an exotic species - the European smooth newt (Lissotriton vulgaris) - and demonstrate the benefits of eDNA sampling for surveying aquatic species.
The distribution of the European smooth newt in Melbourne will be determined by conducting a broad-scale eDNA survey of waterbodies in Melbourne’s southeast. These data will be used to develop a reliable map of newt distribution to inform potential eradication.
