Finding early disease biomarkers for cancer, malaria and heart disease provides the best chance of survival. Infrared-based technology offers potential to detect the early chemical changes that precede or accompany the diseased state. However, the data generated using these advanced imaging technologies requires sophisticated pattern recognition techniques to extract the diagnostically useful information. In this project we will develop new protocols and apply the latest machine based recognition systems to elucidate the important disease markers for canine cancer, malaria and atherosclerosis. With this new approach we hope to develop a spectroscopic imaging platform suitable for detecting disease markers in the clinical environment.
