This project aims to provide, through novel design, a series of well-like assemblies - the so called yoctowells. Their application in supramolecular host-guest chemistry, the discrimination of nucleotides based on weak interactions, as a catalytic container for water splitting, and for studying artificial photosynthesis will be explored. The ultimate goal will be to use the yoctowells as mimics of biological systems and their processes and to apply the knowledge gained in forming a new generation of novel biosensors and energy transduction systems.
