Project Description
Eastern Indonesia is a priority area for climate change intervention for the Indonesian and Australian governments due to the risks of extreme climate-related natural disasters (DFAT, 2020; Katalis, 2022). The proposed Climate Resilience Fellowship program will provide
six Indonesian fellows from Eastern Indonesia. The project will build on our Australian and Indonesian government funded KONEKSI project.
Proposed activities and outputs will play a crucial role in addressing climate change resilience through an interdisciplinary and intersectional approach with GEDSI focus (1) Capacity Building and Training using, (2) A two-day panel discussion, (3) Networking and Collaboration by connecting with Climate Change Communication Research Hub at Monash University in Australia, (4) Community Engagement by study tours to learn best practices from indigenous communities in Australia, (5) Advocacy and Communication by developing an advocacy plan and educational material for public awareness campaigns and advocacy.
Outcomes of the program include (1) the creation of a sustainable network comprising policymakers and local partners dedicated to enhancing climate resilience, (2) capacity-building opportunities for policymakers and local partners to become champions in climate change resilience, and (3) the development of policy briefs, toolkits, and educational materials for digital awareness campaigns, equipping fellows with knowledge of climate change resilience.
