Project description: The Christchurch attacks prove how desperately Islamophobia needs to be effectively addressed to protect social cohesion for all Australians. While much research has been conducted on the causes and impact of Islamophobia, less is understood about how to effectively counter it. This travel will enable me to learn from reputable non-Muslim and Muslim organisations who have been fighting bigotry for many years to bring the best, evidence-based and leading-edge practices back to Australia for the benefit of all. As Muslim women bear a larger brunt of Islamophobia, and are more active in initiatives to fight it, I will focus on the special role women can play.
