Characterisation of insulin-independent glucose uptake mediated by G-protein coupled receptors

Project: Research

Project Description

This proposal will examine how glucose metabolism can be regulated by activation of G-protein coupled receptors in an insulin-independent manner. It will focus on the cell signalling mechanisms used and in particular the role of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and the translocation of glucose transporters. The project will result in an improved understanding of the cell signalling mechanisms involved in glucose transport and will be published in high impact peer reviewed journals.
