Project Description

The Australia-Japan Leaders Meeting Joint Statement in January 2022 reaffirmed a shared commitment to human rights in our region. This project will bring four Japanese academics to Australia from 30 January 2023 to 3 February 2023 as part of a larger partnership project seeking to build a foundation of exchange and collaboration between Japan and Australia through the development of a collaborative research network in the area of gender in/equality.

The project objectives are to:
- promote shared interests and mutual understanding of Australian and Japanese policy development to evidence strategies and practices in gender equality; this will be done via a virtual knowledge exchange event, which will be live-streamed in English and Japanese, targeting academics, young researchers, policy makers and practitioners in both countries;
- build expertise in evidence-building in the areas of gender in/equality research, education and practices to be continued in a post-pandemic world;
- develop new partnerships between universities (e.g. webinars, future visits to institutions and postgraduate student exchanges or joint research supervision); and Australia-Japan Foundation 2022-2023 MGFVPC
- re-connect with Australian alumni (humanities and social sciences) in Japan and highlight their success to increase recognition in Japan of Australian excellence and expertise in education and research.
