Project Description

Severe traumatic brain injury is a leading cause of death and disability in Australia. Intensive care in this setting focuses on ensuring adequate delivery of oxygen to the injured brain, albeit current management may not always achieve this. We will randomly allocate 860 severely brain injured patients to either standard care, or a novel management protocol informed by early brain tissue oxygen monitoring. This strategy will hopefully lead to improved functional outcomes and major savings.
