Project Description

We intend to investigate new synthetic approaches to unprecedented classes of bismuth compounds to aid
in the establishment of metal-organic compounds of bismuth as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and
agents to combat Leishmaniasis. We aim to synthesise and fully characterise bismuth derivatives model
compounds for existing non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and then to the target compounds
themselves, and to evaluate their anti-microbial activity while maintaining anti-inflammatory activity, with a
particular focus on the development of new compounds which have the potential to allow oral or dermal
administration.
