Project Description
The Australian Synchrotron is a major engine of innovation. Work performed using it has had a significant
impact in materials science, biomedical research, art history, manufacturing industry and in a range of other
areas. Its track record of research productivity matches the best in the world. This Special Research Initiative
will ensure that the university and medical research institute community continues to benefit from
synchrotron access over the next four years. It will implement a peer-reviewed merit based approach to time
allocation that will ensure that the very best internationally competitive science will be performed. It will
provide the academic community with continued access to 55% of the user time at the facility.
