Project Description
‘Art and Convict Transportation from Britain and Ireland to Australia, 1787-1868’ is the first major study of the art made by convicts transported from Great Britain to the penal colonies in Australia by the British crown between 1787 and 1868. These convicts produced a vast number of artworks whilst aboard the transport ships and once in the colonies, many of which are now considered foundational to settler Australian art history.
