Project Description
The understanding of material and cellular properties requires a through characterisation of microstructure. For this reason, advanced microscopy techniques are fundmental to the areas of nanotechnology, biotechnology and advanced materials. This proposal seeks to establish new facilities for advanced electron and X-ray microscopy to provide essential characterisation tools to the research programs of a large, interdisciplinary consortium of research groups. Instrumentation is sought which is of national benefit and capable of obtaining images (both in 2-D and 3-D) as well as chemical information at the high spatial resolutions required to solve the challenging probelms facing researchers pushing the forntiers of technolgy.
