The convergence of nanotechnology with biomedicine has important implications for the development of
nanomedicines. A central goal is the design and application of new materials for therapeutic delivery and to
understand the behaviour of these systems at both the cellular and whole animal model levels. We propose
the establishment of an Advanced Fluorescence Imaging Facility, which will provide leading instruments for
the imaging and characterisation of cells, pathogens, drug delivery systems and their collective interactions.
This facility will underpin research by leading researchers at The University of Melbourne, Monash University
and the Bionic Ear Institute, promoting synergies between researchers in the physical and life sciences.
