Project Description

Many consider the gold standard for PICC insertion is to use fluoroscopic
assistance as this increases the accuracy of PICC placement and reduces
complications. In many centres where this is not an available resource, PICC
lines are placed without imaging guidance. There may be flow on effects in
terms of safety and complications associated with PICC positioning in a
suboptimal location. At the Alfred, we offer a number of different services
including both fluoroscopic-assisted and non-fluoroscopic line insertions
however there has not been any quality control to ensure that both methods are
resulting in optimal line positioning.
