Project Description

This AARE Methodology Research Summit focuses on design and analyses using robust, modern survey methods to engage in quantitative data collection and analysis. According to the ARDEN Research Methodology Report (2011) that documented Australian educational academics’ and students’ needs that AARE may be able to help meet, 360 researchers (including ECRs and students) expressed interest in having the opportunity to attend AARE-organised methodology workshops (report is attached). Yet this opportunity has not been offered until now (In 2017, AARE conducted qualitative research methodology workshops). Our 2018 proposal is based on an identified gap in educational research in Australia, to build capacity for quantitative methods by researchers (ECRs, doctoral, honours students) as defined in the AARE Strategic Plan. The proposed Summit consists of a series of two 3-day Workshops; one in Melbourne (at Monash University, July 2018), and one in Sydney (at ACU—Strathfield, December, 2018). A range of international and domestic presenters will provide expertise and leadership in quantitative methods including aspects of survey design and data analysis (correlational, longitudinal, multivariate, person-centred, factor analyses).
