Innate-like T cells represent a significant proportion of the total lymphocytes present within the immune system. However, in contrast to T cells associated with adaptive immunity we know very little about the role of innate-like T cells in protective or aberrant immunity. Nevertheless, innate-like T cells are considered to play an important role within the host. My Future Fellowship proposal will undertake a molecular and functional investigation into the function of innate-like T cells. The outcome of my Fellowship will provide a greater understanding of the role of innate-like T cells in pathological and non-pathological conditions, as well as an opportunity to ultimately develop novel immunotherapeutics.
